Can’t Afford a BMW? Try Sharing

One of the first things you learned as a child was how nice it is to share. BMW is banking that adults eager to solve the transportation problems of today can remember that lesson by launching a premium car sharing service. Starting in Seattle with plans to expand to other major cities, the “Reach Now” program is designed to provide a car sharing experience that is just as convenient as owning your own car. A fleet of 370 cars will be available for immediate use on the streets of Seattle, with plans for near-term expansion to the Seattle-Tacoma airport by next quarter. “Seattle residents are demanding more transportation options, and car sharing is a convenient way to avoid the expense of owning your own vehicle,” according to Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. “BMW’s car sharing service also complements our strategy to promote the use of electric vehicles across the city. As we grow our transit networks, we look forward to expanding car sharing as another great option to get around Seattle.”

Initial Fleet Includes i3, and 3-Series

If you’re looking for the most extensive Phoenix BMW inventory, head over to Chapman BMW on Camelback and check out the BMW i3 and 3-Series as possible car sharing alternatives. Those two vehicles, along with the Mini Cooper, will make up the Seattle fleet. By downloading and registering on the Reach Now app, you can be approved for car sharing in as little as 2 minutes. Using your smartphone, you can request a car be delivered to your door step, extend your rental period and even book a car with a driver. “Our customers rightly expect uncomplicated and fast solutions to their individual mobility needs, especially in metropolitan regions,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, BMW board member. “This is why we are supplementing our classic business model with additional services that make life on the road easier for people in big cities.”

Reach Now Lets You Rent Out Your Car

If you have a car that matches the inventory needs of the Reach Now program, you can rent it out and make a little money during times you don’t need to drive. Reach Now vehicles are rented out at the rate of 49 cents per minute of use, or 30 cents if the vehicle is parked. There is a one-time fee of $39 for registration fee, although during the roll-out period the registration fee is being waived. All prices include fuel, insurance and parking within a designated area. Reach Now is just another example of BMW technology leading the way to solve transportation problems of the future. Plug-in Technology Adds to 3-Series Desirability

As one of the world’s most popular entry level luxury sedans, the BMW 3-Series has set the bar pretty high in its segment for efficiency and performance using conventional gasoline engines. The new 330e iPerformance plug-in hybrid is ready to move that bar up a couple of more notches, utilizing an intelligent design with superior aerodynamics to create a new driving machine that takes advantage of electric power advancements and hybrid technology to create one of the most efficient high-performance vehicles on the highway. Keep in touch with Chapman BMW on Camelback to see when the new 330e iPerformance will be ready for your test drive.

Electric Motor Works in Conjunction With Proven Gas Engine

BMW has modified its tried and true TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine to work in conjunction with an 87 horsepower electric motor to generate a combined 248 horsepower and 310 pound feet of torque. That’s enough to complete the 0 to 60 mph run in just 5.9 seconds on the way to a top speed of 140 miles per hour. The electric motor can generate a top speed of 75 mph by itself with a range of around 14 miles. The electric motor also can generate a bit of boost upon command, helping bring your new BMW 3-Series up to speed when passing large trucks or whenever the spirit moves you.

Drivers Choose From Three Drive Programs

Use the eDrive button in the center console to switch through the three different drive programs. Auto eDrive is the standard setting that is used to ensure the gas and electric engines work together for the best possible efficiency. This limits the top electric speed to 50 mph before the gas engine kicks in. Max eDrive uses only electric power to drive the car. This is useful for short commutes where you can recharge the vehicle at night. Save Battery mode lets the gas engine charge the battery if it is below 50 percent. The charge is frozen if the battery is above 50 percent, letting the vehicle use the electric boost if needed.

Intelligent Energy Management Works With Navigation

The 330e iPerformance sedan comes with a proactive driving assistant that works in conjunction with the navigation system to ensure you get the most efficiency out of your BMW. The navigation system collects information on your route including topography, speed restrictions and real-time traffic reports to know when to utilize electric power and when to switch to gas. It prepares the car for long inclines and saves energy in other ways so it will be there when you need it. Once you’re home, it only takes about six hours to recharge the batteries to full capacity utilizing a 120-volt socket. BMW also has the world’s largest charging network with more than 30,000 locations in 22 countries. Be ready for the wow factor with the new 330e iPerformance comes to Chapman BMW on Camelback.
