BMW Teams Up With Rideshare Giant

Uber users in large American cities were a little surprised on October 24 when their driver showed up in a brand new BMW 7 Series, the company’s flagship luxury vehicle. Riders in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago received complimentary rides from BMW Product Specialists to wherever they wanted to go. “With our new 7 Series being the most innovative vehicle in its class, it’s only fitting that we partnered with Uber to offer a unique and exciting way to experience our flagship model prior to retail launch,” according to BMW product manager Jason Chan. “We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the launch of the BMW 7 Series than by offering Uber riders the unique chance to upgrade their ride,” said Amy Friedlander Hoffman of Uber. The BMW 7 Series has undergone a complete design change, which you can see for yourself in the near future when it arrives at Chapman BMW on Camelback.

New 7 Series Has Weapons Loaded for Big Prey

It’s no secret that the Mercedes S class has dominated the premium luxury market for the past few years, but the new BMW 7 Series is locked and loaded and appears capable of at least injuring its German competitor. The fun all starts with the display key, an option that looks like a small smartphone and is capable of displaying important vehicle information. Although it’s more of an interesting, fun option than a reason to buy the car, it unlocks all the new goodies inside. The new iDrive system allows you to operate the touchscreen like a tablet, pinching and swiping and zooming to your heart’s content. A rear seating package provides another touchscreen in the rear console that adjusts the rear seats, lighting and HVAC system. It can also play video and audio and use the internal WiFi system to connect to the Internet.

Extensive Use of Carbon Fiber Reduces Weight

The new BMW 7 Series is the first high volume production car to use a mixture of carbon fiber, high-tensile steel and aluminum to create a body that is both light and strong. Now almost 200 pounds lighter than the previous 7 Series, the result is evident in both fuel efficiency and performance. The turbo 6-cylinder in the 740i generates 320 horsepower and 330 foot pounds of torque. Move up to the twin turbo 4.4-liter V8 and you get and additional 125 horsepower. The engines and transmission are tied to the navigation system to learn the road’s curves and dips, which helps you adjust your shift patterns in real time. Rolls Royce Suspension Provides Superior Handling and Comfort

BMW called on some of the engineers from the super luxury Rolls Royce team to help fine tune the suspension on the new 7 Series. The result is a front and rear air suspension system that not only provides great handling, but superior comfort. Drivers can choose between Comfort, Comfort Plus and Sport settings to adjust the suspension to the driving conditions.

New Car Sales Continue to Set Records

BMW is enjoying record sales as the U.S. auto industry continues to post strong 2015 numbers. With overall September sales up 4 percent from a year ago, the Bavarian automaker has almost hit 250,000 total deliveries in America for 2015 with three months to go. “There’s no doubt about the strength of the U.S. economy and that people continue to buy new cars as evidenced by the BMW record sales result in September,” according to Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW North Amercica. Willisch said he expects sales to be even stronger in the fourth quarter, with the introduction of the new 7 Series and compact X1 crossover vehicle. X3, 5 Series Post Strongest Sales Jumps

The BMW X3, a midsize SUV that offers sporty handling and the ability to haul kids and groceries around town, sold more than 3,000 vehicles in September for a jump of 68 percent from a year ago. The 5 Series sedan, an entry level, affordable luxury car, obliterated the previous year’s numbers. The 5 Series sold a little more than 1,400 vehicles in September of 2014 but delivered more than 4,000 cars this year. The BMW 3 Series smaller sedan also did well, increasing 11 percent with sales of more than 9,000 vehicles. Along with the BMW X3, the X1 and X5 offer a wide range of SUVs for a country hungry for vehicles with room, performance and off-road ability.

X3 Delivers Rugged Design, Agile Performance

The BMW X3 is the perfect traveling companion no matter where you want to go, whether it’s a trip to a ski resort, ferrying kids to school or taking a shortcut across a mountain road. With 300 horsepower and more than 8 inches of ground clearance, the X3 has the ability to get out of tight spots while still providing that legendary BMW luxury. Driving technology like hill descent control helps you keep command on steep declines. Variable sport steering adjusts the ration of steering wheel to turn radius as you increase and decrease speed. Go and sit in an X3 with a visit to Chapman BMW on Camelback and see why this sturdy little SUV is crushing sales records.

xDrive Keeps You in Control on Slick Roads

Don’t let a little water, ice or mud deter you from the completion of your appointed rounds. BMW’s patented xDrive 4-wheel drive system recognizes when a wheel starts to slip and distributes power to avoid a problem. The bias toward the rear wheels improves traction and provides a real feeling of control no matter what surface you’re on.

Effort to Compete With Audi R8

The Lexus division of Toyota has teamed up with BMW to create a mid-engine sports car that would compete with the Audi R8. Although details are still sketchy, it’s thought to be a super high-performance vehicle that would be a sequel to the Lexus LFA. The two auto giants have combined to build a prototype that has all-wheel drive, an aluminum frame and a carbon-fiber body. The all-wheel drive reportedly has electric motors propelling the front wheels. It will be some time before it’s available for public consumption, but stay in touch with Chapman BMW on Camelback for reports on the new supercar.

BMW Version Will Feature Hybrid Technology

Reports say that the BMW version of this supercar will utilize a straight-six engine boosted by twin turbos that is combined with hybrid and plug-in technology. Although 1,000 horsepower is not impossible, emissions regulations, fuel efficiency standards and wear and tear on such a beast means that 800 horsepower is a more likely number. The new supercar is rumored for delivery by the Tokyo Olympic Games of 2020 and should cost around $200,000.
